Central Nervous System Consultation, Autopsy, Varies
Use
This test provides comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis of complex neurological conditions through detailed neuropathological examination. It is particularly useful for the investigation of congenital neurological diseases, neurodegenerative conditions, cases with intricate neurological or neurosurgical histories, and unexplained deaths. The service includes neuropathologist consultation, careful dissection, and necessary diagnostic staining, aiding in uncovering unusual or rare neuropathological cases.
Special Instructions
Ensure all relevant clinical information, operative notes, and radiographs accompany the specimen. Use the Central Nervous System Consult Kit (T633) for shipping. This test is not intended for cases under litigation without preauthorization.
Limitations
Evaluation is limited to the specimens provided. Results depend on the quality and completeness of clinical and specimen data submitted. Specimens must be fully fixed in formalin for 7 to 10 days prior to shipping for proper diagnostics.
