Circulating Immune Complex, C3 fragments
Use
The Circulating Immune Complex, C3 fragments test is used for the quantitation of immune complexes in serum. Immune complexes are associated with various autoimmune disorders, chronic infections, and malignancies, and their measurement can aid in staging immunologic disorders. However, the detection of circulating immune complexes is not essential to any specific diagnosis and positive results may occur without any evident pathology.
Special Instructions
Serum must be collected in a red top or serum gel tube, and within 30 minutes after clotting is complete, it should be centrifuged and aliquoted into a plastic vial. The specimen must be frozen immediately and sent frozen. Separate specimens are required when multiple tests are ordered.
Limitations
The test quantifies immune complexes, but the presence of circulating immune complexes alone does not necessarily indicate an immune complex-related disease or pathology. Equivocal values between 15 and 20 ug Eq/mL may require repeat testing if clinically indicated. Gross hemolysis, lipemia, icterus, or non-frozen specimens can lead to rejection of the sample.
