Claudin-4 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Claudin-4 is a component of tight junction strands found on cell membranes of epithelial origin. It is used to distinguish carcinoma from mesothelioma and carcinoma from sarcoma, aiding in the differential diagnosis of these conditions. The test does not provide pathologist interpretation, focusing only on the technical performance of the stain.
Special Instructions
This test offers only the technical performance of the Claudin-4 immunohistochemistry stain without pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered in combination with a pathology consultation (PATHC); if done, the technical component stains will be canceled. Specimens must be shipped with specific attention labels provided in the kit.
Limitations
The Claudin-4 immunostain does not include pathologist interpretation. Environmental factors can affect the charge of slides and potentially alter staining quality. Best practices suggest minimizing the time slides are stored after unpackaging, limiting exposure to high humidity and heat, and minimizing exposure to plastics to maintain slide integrity. The stability of paraffin sections varies and should ideally be cut within 6 weeks to ensure optimal immunoreactivity.
