Cockroach American (Periplaneta americana) IgE
Use
The Cockroach American IgE test is used in the context of allergy testing to detect the presence of specific Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in response to the allergen from the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana). Positive results indicate sensitization to this allergen and can help in the diagnosis of allergies, guiding management and treatment options such as allergen avoidance and immunotherapy.
Special Instructions
Specimens can be drawn in a plain red-top tube or serum gel tube. Ensure that 0.5 mL of serum is sent refrigerated in a plastic vial for optimal test results.
Limitations
This test has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration but has been developed and performance characteristics determined by Eurofins Viracor. It is important to interpret results in conjunction with clinical evaluation, as false positives or negatives can occur. Environmental factors and cross-reactivity with other allergens may affect results. Interpretation should consider patient's clinical history and other diagnostic procedures.
