Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, Serum
Use
The comprehensive metabolic panel is crucial for routine health monitoring and patient monitoring during hospitalization. It provides essential information on metabolism, including current kidney status, electrolyte and acid/base balance, and blood glucose levels. It is also used to assess the impact of medications on kidney or liver function.
Special Instructions
Patient's age and sex are required for the test. Specimens should be protected from light during shipment. If not ordering electronically, complete and send a Renal Diagnostics Test Request form with the specimen.
Limitations
Some specimen types and conditions such as gross hemolysis can lead to rejection. The test provides analytes and a calculated anion gap to assess various health markers, but it must be interpreted alongside other clinical data to provide meaningful context. Reference values are not established for some age groups, and results should be used together with other diagnostic evaluations.
