Cryptococcus Antigen Screen, Lateral Flow Assay, Random, Urine
Use
Aiding in the diagnosis of infection with Cryptococcus neoformans or Cryptococcus gattii. Detection of Cryptococcus antigen in urine may be used as an adjunct method for diagnosis of disseminated infection alongside culture and other serologic methods. A negative result should not rule-out infection, and testing should be performed when clinical evidence suggests the disease.
Special Instructions
This test should not be used as a test of cure or as a screening procedure for the general population. If ordering manually, the Infectious Disease Serology Test Request form (T916) should be included with the specimen.
Limitations
A negative result does not preclude the diagnosis of cryptococcosis, especially if symptoms are present. False-positive results may occur in patients with trichosporonosis or Capnocytophaga infections. Rarely, high concentrations of cryptococcal antigen can result in false negatives or weak positives.
