Cucumber IgG
Use
Cucumber IgG test is used to detect immunologic sensitization to cucumber allergens. It can aid in evaluating food-related complaints but should not be used as standalone evidence of a food allergy, as the presence of food-specific IgG indicates only sensitization by the allergen. This test should be part of a broader diagnostic approach, including diet elimination and challenge tests, especially in patients with suspected food intolerance.
Special Instructions
This test should be ordered by physicians familiar with its limitations. The test requires serum specimens and includes guidance for specimen collection and handling, such as refrigerating the sample and minimum volume requirements.
Limitations
Reference ranges for food-specific IgG tests have not been established, and the clinical utility remains undetermined. Cucumber IgG results should be used to guide further dietary investigations and not as definitive proof of food allergies. Potential assay limitations include the inability to directly correlate IgG levels with allergic reactions or diagnose intolerance independently.
