Cultivated Wheat, IgE, Serum
Use
Testing for IgE antibodies helps establish a diagnosis of an allergy to cultivated wheat, define the allergens responsible for signs and symptoms, and identify allergens responsible for allergic responses or anaphylactic episodes. This test can confirm sensitization before starting immunotherapy. It's not useful for patients treated with immunotherapy for residual sensitivity or when allergen specifics do not influence management.
Special Instructions
Centrifuge and aliquot serum into a plastic vial. Use the Allergen Test Request form if not ordering electronically.
Limitations
IgE antibody testing is not useful for patients previously treated with immunotherapy to detect residual sensitivity or in cases where allergen identification does not affect management. False positives may occur in individuals with extremely high serum IgE (>2500 kU/L) due to nonspecific IgE binding.
