Use
This test is useful for the identification of pure isolates of filamentous fungi and yeast. It involves specific methodology to accurately identify fungal organisms, which is critical for appropriate treatment and management of fungal infections.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be in a pure culture and actively growing, isolated mold or yeast in Sabouraud dextrose agar slant, or inhibitory mold agar slant. Ensure to follow shipping instructions as detailed in the Infectious Specimen Shipping Guidelines. Specimen source and isolate description, including Gram stain reaction, morphology, and tests performed, must be provided.
Limitations
Contaminated or mixed cultures can delay results or make identification impossible. Improper specimen collection and handling may also result in misidentification or testing issues.
