Dairy and Grain Allergen Profile, Serum
Use
This test is useful for establishing a diagnosis of an allergy to dairy and grain allergens. It helps define the specific allergen responsible for eliciting allergic signs and symptoms, identifies allergens responsible for allergic responses or anaphylactic episodes, confirms sensitization before immunotherapy, and investigates the specificity of allergic reactions to insect venom, drugs, or chemicals. The test provides an indication of the immune response to allergens potentially associated with allergic diseases, especially useful in individuals predisposed to develop allergic conditions such as eczema and respiratory diseases.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Testing for IgE antibodies is not recommended for patients previously treated with immunotherapy to assess residual sensitivity or in cases where medical management does not rely on allergen specificity. False positives may occur in patients with elevated serum IgE (>2500 kU/L) due to nonspecific binding. The test does not fully determine the specificity of allergic reactions and should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical history and other diagnostic tests.
