Dilute Russell's Viper Venom Time (DRVVT), with Reflex, Plasma
Use
The Dilute Russell's Viper Venom Time (DRVVT) test is used for detecting and confirming the presence of lupus anticoagulants (LA), as well as helping to distinguish LA from specific coagulation factor inhibitors or deficiencies. It can be particularly useful for identifying LA that do not prolong the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and for evaluating unexplained prolongation of the APTT or prothrombin time clotting tests.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
The DRVVT test may not detect all lupus anticoagulants, and some may only be detectable by other tests such as Staclot LA or APTT. Anticoagulant therapy can result in false-positive results. Residual platelets can decrease sensitivity and specificity leading to false negatives. Excess heparin or inhibitors of factors V or VIII could cause false positives.
