Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation/Intravascular Coagulation and Fibrinolysis (DIC/ICF) Profile Interpretation
Use
This test is used for the interpretation of test results in the context of evaluating laboratory evidence of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) or intravascular coagulation and fibrinolysis (ICF). These conditions are characterized by consumptive hemorrhagic and microthrombotic disorders resulting in clinical bleeding or thrombosis. Conditions associated with DIC/ICF include sepsis, trauma, obstetric complications, malignancies, vascular disorders, and immunologic disorders, which can lead to thrombin and fibrin formation intravascularly, causing thrombosis, organ failure, or bleeding due to consumption of coagulation components and platelets.
Special Instructions
Only orderable as part of a profile. For more information, refer to the ADIC / Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation/Intravascular Coagulation and Fibrinolysis (DIC/ICF) Profile, Plasma.
Limitations
No significant cautionary statements. The test is not a standalone diagnostic tool and should be interpreted in the broader clinical context. Inappropriate test selection or specimen handling can lead to diagnostic confusion.
