Egg Comprehensive Profile, Serum
Use
This test is useful for identifying egg allergens responsible for allergic diseases and/or anaphylactic episodes. It helps confirm sensitization prior to beginning immunotherapy. The test provides an indication of the immune response to allergens that could be associated with allergic disease, especially in children, as egg allergy is one of the common food allergies. The test evaluates for IgE antibodies against allergens found in egg whites and yolks, which assists in identifying individuals at risk for clinical allergic reactions, such as atopic dermatitis, urticaria, and asthma.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
The test is not appropriate for patients in whom medical management will not change based upon allergen specificity. False-positive results may occur due to nonspecific binding in individuals with markedly elevated serum IgE levels (>2500 kU/L). The results must be interpreted within the clinical context because measurable IgE levels do not always correlate with significant clinical sensitivity.
