Epstein Barr Nuclear Antigen 2 (EBNA2) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Epstein Barr virus (EBV) nuclear antigen 2 (EBNA2) is an EBV-encoded nuclear protein of 82 kD necessary for the transformation of EBV-infected B lymphocytes. The immunostain is useful for identifying EBV infection in normal, inflammatory, and neoplastic tissues, as well as in the diagnosis of reactive and neoplastic lymphoproliferative and plasma cell proliferative disorders.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain without pathologist interpretation. If ordering with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, the technical component stains will be canceled. It is important to use the green "Attention Pathology" and pink "Immunostain Technical Only" labels for shipment.
Limitations
The test does not provide pathologist interpretation, only the technical performance of the stain. Interpretation should be done in the context of the patient's clinical history and other tests by a qualified pathologist. Immunoreactivity may be affected by the age of paraffin sections, with best practices suggesting cutting sections within 6 weeks. Inconsistent staining can result from sending unsuitable glass slides due to poor surface chemistry or environmental exposure.
