Estrogen Receptor Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is used for the qualitative detection of estrogen receptor alpha protein in a diagnostic setting. Estrogen receptor alpha protein expression is limited to normal and neoplastic tissues related to the reproductive system such as breast, cervix, endometrium, uterus, ovary, and prostate. The test helps in assessing the presence of this protein, which can be critical for diagnosis and management of certain types of cancers.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled. Attach the green 'Attention Pathology' label and the pink 'Immunostain Technical Only' label included in the kit to the outside of the transport container.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. If interpretation is required, order PATHC for a full diagnostic evaluation or second opinion. The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and stability thresholds vary widely. The charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental factors, potentially altering stain results. Best practices for storage include minimizing time stored after unpackaging and limiting exposure to high humidity and heat.
