Factor V Inhibitor Profile, Professional Interpretation
Use
This test is useful for the interpretation of testing for factor V inhibitors. Significant bleeding can result from the presence of a coagulation factor inhibitor, which could be life-threatening. Whether the inhibitor is present due to hemophilia or is of an acquired nature, it greatly complicates the treatment of a decreased factor level. The titer of the inhibitor may determine the mode of treatment.
Special Instructions
This test is only orderable as a reflex. For more information, see 5INHE / Factor V Inhibitor Evaluation, Plasma. An interpretive report will be provided and reviewed by a coagulation expert (clinician or hematopathologist).
Limitations
No significant cautionary statements or diagnostic confusion conditions are noted. Improper specimen collection or handling, inappropriate test selection, and interfering substances may cause issues. Bethesda units provide a standardization for defining inhibitors, ensuring uniformity in interpretation.
