Fibroblast Culture for Biochemical or Molecular Testing, Chorionic Villi/Products of Conception/Tissue
Use
This test is useful for producing fibroblast cell cultures from various specimen types such as chorionic villi, products of conception, skin fibroblasts, or other biopsied tissues. These cultures can be utilized for subsequent enzymatic analysis or molecular genetic studies, allowing for in-depth biochemical or genetic characterization without performing any interpretation or analysis directly as part of this test. The cultured cells are prepared to be sent to specific laboratories for the required analyses based on testing needs.
Special Instructions
Cryopreservation will be performed when this test is ordered, and only one culture is necessary irrespective of the number of assays requested. It is important to indicate the testing to be performed to avoid delays and to provide the required external laboratory paperwork for send-out testing.
Limitations
This test does not include any analysis or interpretation of results. Viability of cells is crucial, and delays can occur if viable cells are not obtained within 30 days. Mycoplasma contamination can result in cancellation of tests, and specimens that are not properly handled or are exposed to temperature extremes may not yield viable cultures. Proper specimen collection, handling, and transportation are essential to avoid confounding factors that may interfere with cell culture.
