Fibroblast Growth Factor-23 (FGF23), In Situ Hybridization
Use
The Fibroblast Growth Factor-23 (FGF23) test is used for assessing the expression of fibroblast growth factor-23 in tissues. FGF23 is a phosphaturic hormone that acts on the proximal renal tubules to block phosphate reuptake, which is crucial for diagnosing conditions like phosphaturic mesenchymal tumors responsible for tumor-induced osteomalacia. This test helps identify the presence and accumulation of FGF23 in affected tissues, aiding in the management and treatment planning of related disorders.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
The test is limited by the condition of tissue sections. The age of paraffin sections can significantly affect immunoreactivity, which varies among antigens. Slides must be positively charged, with improper slide preparation leading to poor staining results. Additionally, non-formalin fixed or non-paraffin embedded tissue is unsuitable, and cytology smears cannot be processed by this test.
