Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 1, Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for the classification of a subset of lung squamous cell carcinoma. The fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) is a receptor tyrosine kinase that belongs to the fibroblast growth factor family. FGFR1 amplification is seen in 13% to 22% of lung squamous cell carcinoma and has been associated with a worse prognosis.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain, without pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation as technical component stains will be canceled. Transportation requires an 'Attention Pathology' label, and a 'Pink Immunostain Technical Only' label should be attached to the transport container.
Limitations
Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and stability thresholds vary widely in published literature. Best practice is for paraffin sections to be cut within 6 weeks to ensure validity. The charge of glass slides may be altered by environmental factors, affecting slide staining. Suitable glass slides should be used to avoid inconsistent staining due to poor slide surface chemistry.
