Fibronectin Glomerulopathy Confirmation, Mass Spectrometry
Use
Fibronectin glomerulopathy, also known as glomerulopathy with fibronectin deposits 2 (GFND2), is a rare kidney condition characterized by substantial fibronectin deposits in renal glomeruli's mesangium and subendothelial spaces. Diagnosing GFND2 is important for patient management, and this assay assists with such diagnosis by detecting abnormal fibronectin deposits through a unique proteomic profile analysis of glomeruli. Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry on microdissected glomeruli yields specific data to confirm the presence of GFND2 in the right clinical context.
Special Instructions
Preliminary pathology report, history, and electron microscopy images are required. This test is performed using paraffin-embedded kidney tissue blocks only; do not send fixed tissue slides. It is critical to follow specified protocols to ensure the accuracy of results.
Limitations
This test requires formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue and cannot be performed on fixed tissue slides, wet/frozen tissue, cytological smears, or non-formalin-fixed/non-paraffin-embedded tissue. Careful adherence to collection and transportation instructions is necessary to avoid rejection and ensure diagnostic accuracy. Missteps in sampling or handling may lead to erroneous interpretations.
