Fibulin 3 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Immunohistochemical staining for fibulin 3 (FBLN3), also known as epidermal growth factor-containing fibulin-like extracellular matrix protein 1 (EFEMP1), is useful in confirming amyloid type. Antibodies to FBLN3 stain the amyloid deposits in patients with FBLN3 amyloidosis. FBLN3 amyloidosis typically involves the venous walls in the gastrointestinal tract.
Special Instructions
This test includes only technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled. Shipping instructions indicate attaching the green 'Attention Pathology' address label and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label to the outside of the transport container.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. If interpretation is required, order PATHC / Pathology Consultation for a full diagnostic evaluation or second opinion of the case. Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity. Stability thresholds vary widely among published literature and are antigen dependent. Best practice is for paraffin sections to be cut within 6 weeks. The charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental factors and subsequently may alter slide staining.
