Filaria Antibody (IgG4)
Use
This test is used to detect IgG4 antibodies associated with infections caused by major filarial parasites such as Dirofilaria immitis, Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi, and Onchocerca volvulus. It assists in the diagnosis of filarial infections by identifying the specific immune response.
Special Instructions
Ensure that the blood is drawn into a plain red-top tube or serum gel tube. After centrifugation, send 0.5 mL serum refrigerated in a plastic vial for optimal results.
Limitations
Chronic filarial infections that manifest as elephantiasis may not show a significant IgG4 response and thus cannot be ruled out by this test. Cross-reactivity may occur with antibodies to other nematodes, particularly Strongyloides, potentially affecting the assay's specificity.
