Fish and Shellfish Panel IgG
Use
The Fish and Shellfish Panel IgG test is significant for its potential use in evaluating food-related immunologic sensitization. This test measures IgG levels specific to fish and shellfish, which can assist in dietary evaluations for patients presenting with food-related complaints. Although a positive result indicates immunologic sensitization to the corresponding food allergen, it should not be interpreted as definitive evidence of a food allergy. This test is best used in conjunction with a detailed clinical evaluation, including diet elimination and food challenges, to assess potential food sensitivities.
Special Instructions
Serum samples should be drawn using a plain red-top tube or serum gel tube. Following blood collection and centrifugation, it is crucial to send 1 mL of serum in a plastic vial, kept refrigerated, to maintain sample integrity.
Limitations
The presence of food-specific IgG antibodies alone is not sufficient to diagnose a food allergy. It indicates only the presence of immunologic sensitization and should not be solely relied upon for clinical diagnosis. The test's performance characteristics have been determined by Viracor Eurofins, but it has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. As such, healthcare providers should interpret results in the broader context of the patient’s clinical presentation.
