Follicle Stimulating Hormone, Beta Subunit (Beta FSH) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for the classification of pituitary adenomas. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) stimulates maturation of ovarian follicles and estrogen secretion in female individuals. A sparse population of cells stain positively in the normal pituitary gland. Immunohistochemical detection of beta FSH can be useful in distinguishing pituitary adenomas.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain, without pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as technical component stains will be canceled if ordered together. Proper shipping requires a green pathology address label and a pink Immunostain Technical Only label on the transport container.
Limitations
The test is limited by the age of paraffin sections, which may affect immunoreactivity, and the charge of glass slides, which can impact slide staining due to environmental conditions. Storage should minimize unpackaged time, humidity, and heat exposure. Staining may be inconsistent if unsuitable slides are sent.
