Food-Nut Panel # 1, Serum
Use
This multi-allergen IgE antibody panel is used for establishing a diagnosis of allergies to almond, brazil nut, coconut, hazelnut, and peanut. It helps define the allergen responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms, identify allergens responsible for allergic responses and/or anaphylactic episodes, confirm sensitization prior to beginning immunotherapy, and investigate the specificity of allergic reactions to insect venom allergens, drugs, or chemical allergens. It's a first-order test for allergic disease, requiring follow-up testing for individual allergen differentiation in case of a positive result.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Individual allergen responses cannot be identified with this test, necessitating follow-up testing after a positive result to identify specific allergens. Testing for IgE antibodies is not useful in patients previously treated with immunotherapy to determine residual clinical sensitivity or in patients where medical management does not rely on identifiable allergen specificity. False positives can occur in patients with markedly elevated serum IgE (>2500 kU/L) due to nonspecific binding.
