Food Panel II IgG
Use
The Food Panel II IgG test is intended for use in special clinical situations where selecting foods for evaluation by diet elimination and challenge may be necessary. Patients who experience food-related complaints might benefit from this test. It is important to note that the presence of food-specific IgG does not indicate an immediate food allergy but rather immunologic sensitization to the food allergen in question. This test should only be ordered by physicians who are aware of the test’s limitations.
Special Instructions
This test should be ordered only by physicians knowledgeable about its limitations and clinical context. Specimens should be drawn in a plain red-top tube or serum gel tube, then spun down and refrigerated in a plastic vial for shipping, preferably containing 1.5 mL of serum.
Limitations
Food-specific IgG tests have not established reference ranges and clinical utility. These tests can assist in choosing foods for further evaluation in patients with food-related complaints. The presence of food-specific IgG alone cannot be used as evidence of a food allergy, only indicating a sensitization which may not have clinical significance.
