GATA-Binding Protein 3 Immunostain, Technical Component Only, Bone Marrow
Use
GATA-binding protein 3 (GATA3) is a transcription factor involved in the regulation of development and differentiation of various human tissues such as T cells, skin, kidney, mammary gland, and the central nervous system. It is useful in the characterization of carcinomas, including primary bladder and breast carcinomas, and certain types of mesenchymal and neuroectodermal tumors, such as paragangliomas.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not provide pathologist interpretation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If done so, the technical component stains will be canceled. Digital image access is only available for electronically ordered stains.
Limitations
The test is optimized for B5-fixed, decalcified, paraffin-embedded bone marrow specimens. The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, with stability thresholds widely varying depending on the antigen. Best practice recommends cutting paraffin sections within 6 weeks. This test does not include pathologist interpretation, thus requiring ordering of PATHC / Pathology Consultation for full diagnostic evaluation or second opinion.
