Grape IgG
Use
Grape IgG testing is used to measure the level of Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies specific to Vitis vinifera, the common grape. This test is primarily used in clinical situations where there are suspected food-related complaints, to aid in identifying foods that may require evaluation through diet elimination and challenge. However, it is important to note that the presence of food-specific IgG alone does not indicate an allergic response but rather sensitization. It should be used by a physician aware of its limitations to guide further dietary management.
Special Instructions
This test must be ordered by a physician aware of the limitations of assessing food-specific IgG levels. The test was developed by Viracor Eurofins and has specific specimen handling requirements. Collection involves a plain red-top tube or serum gel tube with serum spun down and refrigerated transport.
Limitations
The clinical utility of food-specific IgG tests has not been established, and reference ranges are not set for these tests. IgG testing for food allergies should not be taken as definitive evidence of an allergy. Results should be interpreted in the context of clinical evaluation. This test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA and is only intended for use in specific cases of dietary evaluation in consultation with a healthcare provider.
