Hazelnut Component rCor a 1
Use
The Hazelnut Component rCor a 1 test is used to identify specific IgE antibodies to the minor allergenic component of hazelnut, rCor a 1. This is useful in determining a patient's sensitization to hazelnuts and helps in the management of patients with hazelnut allergy. This test is particularly helpful for those who experience oral allergy syndrome (OAS) as rCor a 1 is homologous to the major birch pollen allergen Bet v 1.
Special Instructions
This test should be ordered only as part of a comprehensive allergic sensitization evaluation. Serum is the only acceptable sample type. Ensure proper storage and transport conditions are met to maintain sample integrity.
Limitations
This test does not detect all hazardous allergens associated with hazelnuts; it focuses specifically on rCor a 1. False negatives may occur if IgE levels are below the detection limit. Cross-reactivity with other pollen-related food allergens may affect test results. The results should be interpreted in conjunction with a full clinical assessment and other diagnostic procedures.
