Hazelnut-Food, IgE with Reflex to Hazelnut-Food Components, IgE, Serum
Use
The test is useful for evaluating patients with suspected hazelnut-food allergy. It measures the relative amount of IgE antibody to total hazelnut-food and IgE antibodies to specific hazelnut-food components. This test aids in assessing the potential strength and type of allergenic response to hazelnut-food. Component testing helps stratify risk of severe systemic reactions or identify pollen-related allergies.
Special Instructions
For any additional specific allergenic hazelnut-food component IgE testing beyond total hazelnut-food IgE, if detectable, an interpretive report will be provided. If ordering manually, complete and send an Allergen Test Request form (T236) with the specimen.
Limitations
Negative results for IgE antibodies against hazelnut or its components do not completely exclude the possibility of allergic responses. Cross-reacting carbohydrate determinants may result in positive total hazelnut specific IgE testing. Positive results indicate a possible sensitization to hazelnut or a cross-reactive allergen but are not diagnostic for allergy.
