Hematologic Disorders, DNA Extract and Hold, Varies
Use
This test is useful for reserving DNA on any specimen for which molecular analysis requiring DNA may be necessary at a future date. It ensures that adequate material for testing is available. It is frequently useful to obtain DNA from clinical samples containing a hematopoietic neoplasm at the time of diagnosis, ensuring appropriate material is available for molecular analysis should subsequent testing be required. This is particularly important for conditions such as acute myelogenous leukemia where there is a delay before karyotype information, which determines the need for testing molecular prognostic markers, is available, and the diagnostic sample may no longer be available later.
Special Instructions
The specimen must arrive within 7 days of collection. Collect and package the specimen as close to shipping time as possible. Submit only 1 of the following specimens: blood or bone marrow. If not ordering electronically, complete, print, and send a Hematopathology/Cytogenetics Test Request form with the specimen. Additional charges will be assessed for testing performed, and a report of 'Performed' will be sent with a $50 processing fee.
Limitations
The DNA may only be used for suitable tests offered by the Molecular Hematopathology Laboratory at Mayo Clinic. It cannot be shipped to another institution for testing and cannot be released for research use. Only liquid blood specimens will be processed. Paraffin-embedded material and fresh, solid tissue will not be accepted.
