HER2, Gastric/Esophageal, Semi-Quantitative Immunohistochemistry, Manual
Use
This test is useful for determining the overexpression of HER2 protein in gastric and esophageal adenocarcinoma. Overexpression of the HER2 gene has been associated with shorter disease-free survival and shorter overall survival in various cancers including gastric cancer. This test involves immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
Special Instructions
Ensure to attach the green pathology address label included in the kit to the outside of the transport container. Ship the specimen at ambient temperature. Only formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded gastric or esophageal adenocarcinoma specimens will be accepted.
Limitations
The test requires proper fixation in 10% neutral-buffered formalin for optimal performance of immunohistochemical stains. Equivocal cases by immunohistochemical stain will reflex to HER2 amplification by FISH, which incurs an additional charge.
