Hydrocodone with Metabolite Confirmation, Random, Urine
Use
This test is useful for the detection and quantification of hydrocodone, norhydrocodone, and hydromorphone in urine. These compounds are beneficial for assessing compliance with prescribed hydrocodone therapy, detecting hydrocodone misuse, or monitoring potential exposure to various opiates. The detection of these metabolites indicates exposure within 2 to 3 days prior to specimen collection. Positive results are accompanied by a quantitative result, useful in understanding recent ingestion patterns.
Special Instructions
For situations where chain of custody is required, a Chain of Custody Kit (T282) is available, and OPATX / Opiates Confirmation, Chain of Custody, Random, Urine should be ordered instead. Additional drug panels and specific requests can be fulfilled by contacting customer support. Ensure proper submission of specimens with the Therapeutics Test Request form for non-electronic orders.
Limitations
Other drugs in the opioid class, such as fentanyl, meperidine, methadone, and opiate antagonists like naloxone, are not detected by this test. The presence of pharmaceutical impurities from medications such as oxycodone or hydromorphone could lead to trace observations of hydrocodone. Interpretation requires careful assessment to avoid diagnostic confusion related to improper specimen collection, handling, or inappropriate test selection.
