Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis Avian Panel
Use
The Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis Avian Panel is used to detect the presence of precipitating antibodies in the sera of patients with hypersensitivity pneumonitis due to sensitization to various species of birds. This test assists in diagnosing bird-related hypersensitivity pneumonitis by identifying avian antigens that may cause an immune response.
Special Instructions
Blood must be drawn into a Red-top tube, though a serum-gel tube is also acceptable. After centrifugation, send 3 mL of serum in a plastic vial refrigerated for optimal results.
Limitations
This test reports results as negative, weakly positive, positive, or strongly positive. These must be correlated with the patient's clinical response and should not be solely relied upon for diagnosis. Factors such as gross hemolysis, thawing (warm), lipemia, or icterus may cause specimen rejection, which will negatively impact testing.
