Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 and Insulin-Like Growth Factor-Binding Protein 3 Growth Panel, Serum
Use
This test is useful for diagnosing growth disorders and adult growth hormone deficiency. It aids in monitoring recombinant human growth hormone treatment. Insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 serves as a possible adjunct to IGF1 and growth hormone levels in the diagnosis and follow-up of acromegaly and gigantism.
Special Instructions
Due to assay issues, this test is currently not orderable. Please consider ordering alternative tests IGFB3 and FIGF1. It is important to indicate the patient's age and sex when submitting specimens.
Limitations
IGF1 reference values are highly age-dependent, and results should be interpreted considering the patient's age. IGF1 assays vary across platforms, which might make direct comparison problematic. Discrepant results can occur due to liver or kidney disease, and heterophile antibodies may rarely interfere with the IGFBP3 assay, causing erroneous results.
