Interleukin-4 (IL-4) Serum
Use
The Interleukin-4 (IL-4) Serum test measures the concentration of IL-4 in the serum. IL-4 is a cytokine that plays a significant role in the immune system, primarily in the differentiation of naive helper T cells to Th2 cells, and is crucial in the immune response to allergens. This test can be valuable in assessing immune function and monitoring diseases that involve IL-4 activity, such as certain allergic disorders and conditions characterized by an overactive immune response.
Special Instructions
Ensure that the blood is drawn in a plain red-top or serum gel tube. After collection, the serum should be spun down and sent frozen in a plastic vial to maintain stability.
Limitations
The test may not detect changes in IL-4 levels below the reference limit of <0.5 pg/mL accurately due to the sensitivity of the multiplex array method used. Other substances or conditions affecting cytokine levels might lead to inaccurate measurements or interpretations.
