Isoagglutinin Titer, Anti-B, Serum
Use
This test is used for evaluating individuals with possible hypogammaglobulinemia. Isoagglutinins are antibodies that can cause agglutination of red blood cells from other individuals due to a lack of the specific antigen on their own RBCs. The test is particularly useful to screen for these antibodies in various pathological conditions where such titers might vary, including acquired and congenital hypogammaglobulinemia and agammaglobulinemia.
Special Instructions
Specimen must arrive within 10 days of collection. Complete the Kidney Transplant Test Request or the Benign Hematology Test Request Form if not ordering electronically.
Limitations
Decreased isoagglutinin titers may be observed in normal older adults and young children under 12 months. This test is not performed for individuals with blood type B or AB. The test result is contingent upon accurate specimen collection and handling.
