Ki67 + Melan A Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Ki67 is a crucial marker for assessing cell proliferation in neoplasms, providing clinicians with insight into the growth dynamics of tumors. Melan A functions as an important immunostain in the identification and diagnosis of melanoma, aiding in the detection of melanocytic origin tumors. The dual use of Ki67 and Melan A in immunohistochemistry enhances the diagnostic accuracy for melanoma and other related pathologies, including clear cell sarcoma, melanotic neurofibroma, and melanotic schwannoma.
Special Instructions
This test exclusively includes the technical component of staining without any pathologist interpretation. It is important not to order this test alongside pathology consultations (PATHC) as the technical component will be canceled in such cases. Clients are advised to adhere to specific shipping instructions, such as using the green 'Attention Pathology' label and ensuring the use of pink Immunostain Technical Only labels. Orders administered manually will not provide access to digital images; electronic orders are necessary for that service.
Limitations
The test performance is limited to the immunohistochemistry of selected markers without pathologist interpretation. The stability of paraffin sections is variable, depending on the antigen involved, and should ideally be cut within six weeks to maintain immunoreactivity. Environmental conditions can affect the charges on glass slides, altering staining outcomes. It is crucial to minimize exposure to disruptive conditions like high humidity and heat to sustain slide integrity. The diagnostic use is limited to technical execution and requires context from a qualified pathologist for complete integration with patient histories and other tests.
