Lamb's Quarter, IgE, Serum
Use
This test is useful for establishing a diagnosis of an allergy to lamb's quarter. It identifies allergens responsible for allergic responses and can confirm sensitization prior to beginning immunotherapy. Additionally, it helps in investigating the specificity of allergic reactions to insect venom allergens, drugs, or chemical allergens.
Special Instructions
For a comprehensive list of allergens available for testing, refer to the Allergens - Immunoglobulin E (IgE) Antibodies PDF. Ensure that the Allergy Test Request Form (T236) is completed and submitted if not ordering electronically.
Limitations
Testing for IgE antibodies is not useful in patients previously treated with immunotherapy to determine if residual clinical sensitivity exists. Additionally, patients whose medical management does not depend upon identification of allergen specificity may not benefit from this test.
