Lentil IgG
Use
The Lentil IgG test is used to detect IgG antibodies to lentils in the serum. While the clinical utility of food-specific IgG tests has not been established, they can be used in specific clinical situations to aid in the selection of foods for elimination diets and subsequent challenge testing in patients who present with food-related clinical symptoms. However, it is important to note that the presence of food-specific IgG indicates immunologic sensitization but not necessarily food allergy.
Special Instructions
This test should be ordered by physicians who are aware of the limitations of food-specific IgG tests. Reference ranges for these tests have not been established, and this test is performed for evaluation purposes.
Limitations
The presence of food-specific IgG alone cannot be used as definitive evidence of a food allergy, but rather indicates immunologic sensitization. The test, developed by Viracor Eurofins, has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Consequently, the performance characteristics might not be fully established or recognized.
