Leukemia/Lymphoma Immunophenotyping, Flow Cytometry, Tissue
Use
This test is intended for the evaluation of tissues for potential involvement by chronic lymphoproliferative disorders, malignant lymphomas, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and acute myelogenous leukemia. It helps in the characterization of cells using antibodies directed against cell surface markers, which is fundamental in establishing a diagnosis of tissue involvement by hematolymphoid malignancies. Additionally, it aids in the subclassification of such malignancies when they are present.
Special Instructions
Order LCMS for bone marrow specimens in special cases. This test should not be used for the evaluation of products of conception specimens. It's important to provide pertinent clinical history and specimen details with the submission. Specimen must be intact and arrive within 4 days of collection. The collection of adequate sample volume is critical for accurate evaluation.
Limitations
This test may not detect Hodgkin lymphoma and is subject to limitations due to sampling bias. Results from flow cytometry might not be sufficient for complete subclassification of hematolymphoid malignancies, as they require correlation with histopathologic features and possibly cytogenetic analyses. Cases with low viability (<50%) may yield false-negative results. Specimens must not be fixed or minced, as this can lead to rejection.
