Lupus Anticoagulant Profile Interpretation
Use
The test is used for the interpretation of results as part of a profile to confirm or exclude the presence of lupus anticoagulant (LAC), distinguishing LAC from specific coagulation factor inhibitors and nonspecific inhibitors. It is particularly helpful in investigating a prolonged activated thromboplastin time, especially when combined with other coagulation studies. This test does not detect antiphospholipid antibodies that do not affect coagulation tests.
Special Instructions
Only orderable as a reflex. For more information, see ALUPP / Lupus Anticoagulant Profile, Plasma.
Limitations
This test is not useful for detecting antiphospholipid antibodies without coagulation test impacts. Separate testing is recommended for serum phospholipid (cardiolipin) antibodies.
