Use
Mammaglobin is a breast-specific marker that aids in evaluating tumors of unknown primary site. It is overexpressed in human breast cancer, and its evaluation in a panel with GCDFP-15 and ER can provide insight into potential tumor origins, especially regarding breast cancer.
Special Instructions
This test includes only technical performance of the stain, with no pathologist interpretation provided. Should not be ordered with PATHC/Pathology Consultation, as technical component stains will be canceled if so ordered. For digital image access, orders must be placed electronically to receive the images.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, which should be requested separately via PATHC for a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. Stability of the cut paraffin sections can affect immunoreactivity, and best practices suggest cutting within 6 weeks for optimal results. Environmental factors affecting slides can lead to inconsistent staining.

Collection Instructions
Preferred specimen is a formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue block or 2 unstained, positively charged glass slides per test ordered, sections 4 microns thick.
Storage Instructions
Minimize storage time and exposure to high humidity and heat after unpackaging the slides.
Causes for Rejection
Wet/frozen tissue, cytology smears, nonformalin fixed tissue, nonparaffin embedded tissue, noncharged slides, ProbeOn slides, Snowcoat slides will be rejected.
