Mandarin, IgE, Serum
Use
The test is useful for establishing the diagnosis of an allergy to mandarin. It is also used in defining the allergen responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms and identifying allergens responsible for allergic responses and/or anaphylactic episodes. Additionally, it can confirm sensitization prior to the beginning of immunotherapy and investigate the specificity of allergic reactions to insect venom allergens, drugs, or chemical allergens.
Special Instructions
Ordering requires serum collection in a serum gel or red top tube, and submission in a plastic vial. For electronic orders, ensure proper form inclusion, else complete the 'Allergen Test Request' form (T236).
Limitations
Testing for IgE antibodies is not useful in patients previously treated with immunotherapy to determine if residual clinical sensitivity exists, or in patients where medical management does not rely on allergen specificity. False-positive results for IgE antibodies may occur in patients with markedly elevated serum IgE (>2500 kU/L) due to nonspecific binding to allergen solid phases.
