Measles (Rubeola) Antibodies, IgG, Serum
Use
This test is useful for determining immune status to the measles virus and documenting previous infection in individuals without a prior record of immunization. The presence of IgG-class antibodies indicates prior exposure to the measles virus through infection or immunization, suggesting immunity to measles infection.
Special Instructions
This assay tests only for IgG-class antibodies. If both IgM and IgG antibodies are required, see ROGM / Measles (Rubeola) Virus Antibody, IgM and IgG, Serum.
Limitations
The presence of IgG-class antibodies may be detected in individuals who have received blood products recently but have not been immunized or previously infected. Serum specimens collected early in the acute phase of infection may be negative for IgG-class antibodies. This test does not quantify the amount of antibody present.
