Melan A (MART-1) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Melanoma antigen recognized by T cells, or Melan-A (MART-1), is a protein associated with the endoplasmic reticulum and melanosomes. This test aids in the identification of melanoma as Melan A is a sensitive and specific marker for diagnosing melanoma. It is also found in other tumors of melanocytic origin, such as clear cell sarcoma, melanotic neurofibroma, and others.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled. Attach the green 'Attention Pathology' address label and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label included in the kit to the transport container.
Limitations
The test does not provide pathologist interpretation. The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, with stability varying among antigens. Best practice is for paraffin sections to be cut within 6 weeks. Slide charge can be affected by environmental factors, altering staining. Unsuitable slides may result in inconsistent results.
