Milk Cow IgG4
Use
The Milk Cow IgG4 test is used to assess the presence of specific IgG4 antibodies directed against milk proteins. It can be used in certain clinical situations such as evaluating patients with food-related complaints and assessing food-allergic patients before food challenges. The test's utility in managing allergy to milk proteins is not fully established due to the lack of cut-off values, and its clinical relevance requires further research.
Special Instructions
Draw blood using a plain red-top tube, although a serum gel tube is also acceptable. After centrifugation, 0.5 mL of serum should be sent refrigerated in a plastic vial for testing.
Limitations
Reference ranges for food-specific IgG4 are not established, and its clinical utility has not been clearly defined. The presence of food-specific IgG4 antibodies has been studied via various oral food immunotherapy treatments, yet cut-offs have not been determined. This test should not be the sole determiner for diagnosing food allergies and is better suited for adjunctive use in specific clinical scenarios.
