Mouse Serum Protein, IgE, Serum
Use
This test is useful for establishing a diagnosis of an allergy to mouse serum protein, defining the allergen responsible for signs and symptoms, and identifying allergens responsible for allergic response or anaphylactic episodes. It can be used to confirm sensitization prior to immunotherapy and to investigate the specificity of allergic reactions to insect venom allergens, drugs, or chemical allergens.
Special Instructions
Not useful for testing IgE antibodies in patients previously treated with immunotherapy to determine if residual clinical sensitivity exists or in patients where medical management does not depend on allergen specificity.
Limitations
False-positive results for IgE antibodies may occur in patients with markedly elevated serum IgE (>2500 kU/L) due to nonspecific binding to allergen solid phases. Some individuals with clinically insignificant sensitivity may have measurable levels of IgE in serum, and results must be interpreted in the clinical context.
