Mucin 6, Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Mucin 6 (MUC6) is a large glycoprotein that plays a major role in the protection of the gastrointestinal tract and belongs to the family of secretory mucins. MUC6 is expressed in the cytoplasm/membrane of gastric pyloric epithelial cells. An immunopanel consisting of MUC1, MUC2, MUC5AC, and MUC6 is useful in subtyping intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms. This test aids in subtyping these neoplasms as part of an immunopanel.
Special Instructions
This test involves only the technical performance of the stain, without pathologist interpretation. Avoid ordering technical component stains with PATHC / Pathology Consultation; such orders will be canceled. If any IHC/ISH stain is needed as part of PATHC, it will be at the pathologist's discretion with an additional charge.
Limitations
No pathologist interpretation is provided with this test; it includes only technical performance. Proper handling and storage are crucial as the age of cut paraffin sections can affect immunoreactivity. Stability thresholds vary and are antigen-dependent. Minimize storage time after slides are unpackaged and limit exposure to high humidity, heat, and direct contact with plastics.
