Myeloperoxidase (MPO) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Myeloperoxidase immunostain is useful for identifying myeloid lineage in acute leukemias. It enables detection of granulocyte precursors in myeloproliferative disorders and myelodysplastic syndromes by showing strong cytoplasmic immunoreactivity in neutrophilic and eosinophilic granulocytes, while virtually all other cell types are negative for myeloperoxidase staining.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the immunostain, with no pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as technical component stains will be canceled if ordered together.
Limitations
The charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental factors, which may alter slide staining. Age of a cut paraffin section can also affect immunoreactivity. Best practices for storage include minimizing time slides are stored after unpackaging and limiting exposure to high humidity and heat.
